News from the Desk: February, 2023

By February 14, 2023 April 13th, 2023 No Comments

G’day mates! I am back from the land Down Under. After visiting Tasmania, I enjoyed exploring Melbourne and Sydney – including attending the Australian Open, sampling delicious ciders at Hillbilly Cider in the Blue Mountains, and checking out the surfers and scenic beach walks at Manly Beach

But, it’s back to work now! On February 9, Sherry joined Jeanne Marie Clavere, Senior Professional Responsibility Counsel for the Washington State Bar Association, to co-present a continuing legal education program focused on ethics, specifically Professional Responsibility and Client Communications. How should an attorney communicate with a client who has diminished capacity? And what are an attorney’s responsibilities in maintaining client confidentiality if well-meaning family members attempt to communicate on that client’s behalf? Sherry and Jeanne Marie addressed these questions, and more, during this ethics presentation.

In addition, I was recently quoted in the Winter 2022/2023 edition of Healthy Pet magazine, in its article “Estate Planning: How to Make Sure Your Pet Will be Cared for.” Although the article contained an error because I did not recommend that pets be cared for through contracts with friends, it nonetheless sets forth some helpful tips on estate planning considerations to ensure the best care possible for your pets.

Also, February is a big month for our most valuable team member – Roger! Our Office Morale Leader will celebrate his 14th birthday on February 18th with extra treats, pets, and a new ceramic drinking fountain! Happy Birthday Roger! You always make us smile!
