News from the Desk: Spring 2025

By April 24, 2025 No Comments

Happy spring! I know my mood is lifted with flowers blooming and warmer weather on the way. I did escape the Seattle winter blues for a fantastic trip to Fiji and Australia in January. Here is a highlight reel:

One of my favorites was the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary located outside of Brisbane. The photo on the right was taken with Fraser, a resident koala, who was spending his morning noshing on eucalyptus leaves.

Top left, I’m in North Stradbroke Island (“Straddie” to the locals) in southeast Queensland. Traditionally known as Minjerribah, it’s the second largest sand island in the world. Lower left is of a cheeky kangaroo at the Australia Zoo, who enjoyed the “roo food” that I provided to him and even took a few bites out of my straw hat! Another epic trip for sure.

In February, we celebrated the 16th birthday of our Office Morale Leader and my constant companion, Roger, on the 18th. Happy to report he is still spry and appropriately demanding that his human fulfill his every need. Happy birthday Roger!

In estate planning news, currently the Washington legislature is considering a measure to revise the Washington estate tax which has had an annual exclusion amount of $2.193 million since 2018. We’re watching to see what, if anything, happens prior to adjournment.

As this is our last newsletter of the year, I want to give you the head’s up that, in January, I’ll be embarking on my third mini-sabbatical (out of the office from 1/6 through 2/7) as I enjoy Hawaii, Fiji, Brisbane, and, of course, a few days watching the Australian Open tennis tournament in Melbourne. Rest assured, our team state-side is here to help with any of your estate or business needs.

I hope you are ready to get outside and enjoy the next few months. We’ll catch up again in October! As always, I would love to hear your questions and comments. If you have any questions about our firm and the work we do, please contact us or visit our website.
