News from the Desk: August 2018

Happy August! As the long summer days begin to wane, we are looking forward to fall and all that it brings—kids going back to school, regular routines being re-established and getting our clients’ legal houses in order!

I’m excited that the third article in my Athlete to Advocate: Lessons Learned through Sports Propel Lawyers to Compete as Champions series was published last month in the American Bar Association GPSolo eReport. In this article, I focused on how the athletic experience can influence an attorney’s approach to practicing law. For example, in both arenas strategic skills come into play: “To achieve success in athletics, an athlete must prepare. As a tennis player, I needed to study my opponents, analyze their strengths and weaknesses, and come into every match with both a plan of attack and a Plan B to implement if my initial strategies proved ineffective. As an attorney, I find the need for strategy and preparation in order to earn good results for my clients to be remarkably similar to my needs on the tennis court.”

Our team enjoyed meeting up for our annual summer dinner at Marjorie on August 2, where we indulged in Jamaican-inspired dishes at this delicious Capitol Hill establishment. We all work from our separate home offices every day, so it’s a pleasure to get some time to talk in person while enjoying a delicious meal!

I’m excited to co-present a Washington State Bar Association (WSBA) continuing legal education (CLE) course with Jeanne Marie Clavere, Professional Responsibility Counsel for the WSBA, on August 20. We will be discussing the Rules of Professional Conduct as it relates to attorneys’ participation in social media, attorneys’ involvement in lawyer rating and lead generation services, and the particular ethical considerations involved in running a virtual law firm—issues that I’m quite passionate about!

As always, I would love to hear your questions and comments. If you have any questions about our firm and the work we do, please contact us or visit our website.
