News from the Desk: March 2015

Hello everyone–Happy March!

March tends to be a fun month, marking the first day of spring (March 20th),  the switch back to a bit more sunlight with daylight savings time, and, of course, March Madness. For West Coast tennis enthusiasts, March is also significant for the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, California – the fifth largest tennis tournament in the world. Like many Seattle area tennis players, I’m looking forward to attending this marque tennis event, seeing that giant yellow sphere in the sky (I believe it’s called “the sun”), connecting with treasured friends, and enjoying world class tennis.

On February 26th, I enjoyed speaking to new entrepreneurs about Business Law Essentials on behalf of the U.S. Small Business Administration. I received positive reviews, and enjoyed meeting so many new Seattle-area business owners!

On March 10th, I spoke at a Washington State Bar Association continuing legal education course “Boot Camp: Probate Fundamentals”.  My presentation  focused on Washington’s Trust and Estates Dispute Resolution Act, known as “TEDRA.” TEDRA is a fabulous tool, used frequently by lawyers in the trusts and estate context in order to resolve disputes, correct errors in estate planning documents, and fix mistakes made by trustees and executors. TEDRA helps clients, giving them a way to resolve messy situations without incurring the time and expense necessitated by litigation. I’ve spoken previously about TEDRA at the 57th WSBA Annual Estate Planning Conference, and enjoyed tackling the issue once again.

I am excited that Sherry has so many speaking opportunities this month! On March 9th, Sherry spoke to a Program for Early Parent Support (PEPS) group on “Estate Planning for New Parents”. On March 19th, she will be a member of a panel presenting on the topic of Ethics and Social Media for the Washington State Bar Association’s continuing legal education course for attorneys seeking readmission to the Bar. And, on March 20th, Sherry will be speaking about estate planning at the Mercer Island Public Library.

As always, I would love to hear your questions and comments. If you have any questions about our firm and the work we do, please visit our website at www.staceyromberg.com.
